Acronym: SONCO
Following the tender process for the France Genomic Medecine 2025 plan, the LBM-FMG SeqOIA (Île-de-France) and AURAGEN (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) were selected to carry out ultra-high-throughput sequencing. The medical and economic evaluation projects for the pilot scheme proposed by each of these LBM-FMGs, which had been developed independently, have been combined into a single project.
The aim of the SONCO (Sequencing Oncology Cohort) cohort is to define and collect indicators (turnaround time, information, quality) as part of the evaluation of these two LBM-FMGs, seeking to measure the impact of sequencing on the care pathway and treatment recommendations. For each patient referred for sequencing under one of the two LBM-FMG, the SONCO cohort includes the RCP-FMG data collected in SPICE and HYGEN, as well as data from the patient’s medical records both before and after ultra-high-throughput sequencing (whole genome, whole exome, RNA-seq) which fall outside the remit of the LBM-FMG centres and will be collected in the hospitals where patients are being treated.
The establishment of a comprehensive cohort of patients undergoing sequencing is useful as a basis for public health decision-making. Generally speaking, an understanding of
patients’ care pathways before and after sequencing is necessary to model the organisational arrangements to be put in place and to plan the strategy following the roll-out of the first two LBM-FMG centres.
Insights into care pathways based on patient characteristics will enable us to adapt and improve patient care, draw up recommendations in collaboration with the relevant medical societies, and anticipate the needs for future LBM-FMG centres.
