Presentation

  • Isolated solid tumour
    • At an unusually young age for the location and without risk factors
    • Examples of age limits used for common cancers: breast cancer <25 years; epithelial ovarian cancer <40 years; prostate cancer <45 years; pancreatic cancer <40 years old; colorectal cancer <20 years old; kidney cancer <30 years old
    • Or the presence of syndromic features
  • Or multiple primary tumours in the same individual
    • 4 or more in different organs (excluding basal cell cancers and environmental cancers after discussion in the multidisciplinary team meeting)
    • The first occurring before the age of 60

Conditions for analysis:

  • Either both parents are available for sampling: constitutional analysis in trio
  • Or frozen samples from at least one of the tumours are available: constitutional and comparative tumour analysis

Criteria before considering a discussion in MDM-FMG

  • The patient must be available for a new blood sample and informed that their case will be presented at a multidisciplinary team meeting
  • Relatives must be available :
    • For isolated cases, both parents should be available (trio analysis).
    • For familial cases, affected relatives should be available.
  • Tumours must be anatomopathologically confirmed, with samples available from the index case and affected relatives.
  • Appropriate routine constitutional and/or tumour genetic analyses must have been performed.
  • Frozen tumour material should be available (optional).
  • The case should preferably have been discussed at a local multidisciplinary team meeting prior to submission.
